Hello, fearless readers and other denizens of the internet. I hope this post finds you well. This week I am going to talk about one of my other favorite hobbies: photography.
I got into photography about three years ago, when a serious injury forced me to take some time off from fencing. Forlorn without something technically difficult to waste my time on, I turned to the unused DSLR camera sitting in my closet.
Photography was everything I wanted in a hobby. The technical skill level was open-ended, dependent on how much time and effort I wanted to put into it to advance. It allowed for creativity and artistic expresion. And more importantly, it gave me a reason to go hiking. Haul myself up a mountain at 7 AM just to enjoy nature? Hell no. Do it for a cool picture of roiling clouds? Hell yes.
The time and effort paid off, in my mind. One of my works was accepted for submission at 40 West Art Gallery’s Life and Death exhibition, and will be on display starting November 6th, 2020. If you’re in the Denver area, you should go check it out! If you’re curious about my other photography, you can see it at my Instagram.
